In the fitness world, it's easy to get lost in trends and complex plans, but sometimes simplicity works best. I participated in a local 8-week transformation challenge with Supplement Superstore, focusing on two main goals: consistently hitting my protein targets and lifting heavier weights. The results? I dropped 8.3 lbs, lost 4.3% body fat, and gained 0.2 lbs of muscle. It wasn’t just about numbers, though—it was about being consistent and showing up every day.
Breaking Through Excuses
We all face obstacles, but it’s too easy to use them as excuses not to take action.
My obstacle is also what drives my passion for fitness. I have stage II lipedema and secondary lymphedema--these medical conditions cause pain, heaviness, and swelling. Lipedema causes disproportionate fat accumulation in my triceps, butt, hips, and thighs, making it harder to tone and change composition in these areas, no matter how consistent I am with training and nutrition. On top of that, secondary lymphedema affects swelling and fluid retention, which means I have to stay on top of lymphatic drainage, movement, and an anti-inflammatory diet to manage pain and discomfort.
Fitness to me has been about so much more than aesthetics—it’s about resilience, self-care, working with my body instead of against it, and improving my mental health.
Instead of using my lipedema as an excuse during this 8 week challenge, I focused on what I can control: my nutrition, my lifting routine, and my consistency. It’s not always easy, but every small effort adds up, and the results speak for themselves not just physically, but even more so mentally.
The Power of Intentionality
It’s easy to let day after day go by without making any progress toward the things you truly want. Life gets busy, and before you know it, weeks or months can pass without taking action on your fitness or health goals. That’s why I loved the 8-week structure of this challenge. It gave me a clear start and finish line, but most importantly, it forced me to be intentional about every day-to-day decision.
Instead of waiting for the “perfect time” to start, I committed to showing up each day and putting in the work, no matter how small it seemed. Each meal, each workout, and each moment of self-care became a choice I made deliberately. That daily intention is what truly propelled me forward. By the end of the 8 weeks, I had not only made physical progress but had developed a habit of being more mindful of my actions and choices. I no longer let days slip by; I took charge of each moment and saw the results because of it.
